Week 5 of my GNAR Quest: Always Follow the Rules

Acknowledging we have limited time can be crazy scary, even though intuitively we all know it is true. And with limited time comes the need for structure, discipline and “rules.” Rules help guide us in the direction of our goals to the achievement of our personal GNAR Quest.

Leadership Tips for Reorg Communication

With a possible recession looming, it seems that re-orgs and restructuring have become our new normal, with leaders at every level feeling pressure to "get their house in order." It's understandable if you're starting to feel a bit numb to the process. But, as Bobbie LaPorte explains in her October 24 "Your Best Next Move" video, how you communicate with people on their way out can be just as important as how you treat them on the way in.

Week 4 of My GNAR Quest: Finding My Edge

I am in Week 4 of my “GNAR Quest.” To be honest, while this self-assigned project is exhilarating at times and a continuous learning adventure, it is really HARD. I expected it to be challenging, but I’m finding that it takes constant vigilance, discipline and awareness to ensure I am making the most of every day.

Week 3 of my GNAR Quest: Gamifying My Quest

I am in Week 3 of my “GNAR Quest”. The three weeks have had their highlights and disappointments, just like an any major plan you set out to achieve. I tend to start a venture like this establishing (overly) ambitious goals for each day, telling myself I can make it happen. After all, one of the tenets of the GNAR Quest is focusing the time I have on the highest leverage activities – the ones I find the greatest benefit from (creating a flow state) and the ones we know from neuroscience that help us build cognitive, physical and self-awareness skills.

Week 1 of my Gnar Quest: Growing Old, Staying Rad

As you might have guessed, “Gnar” is short for “Gnarly,” like the totally awesome dudes who shred down a snowy mountain on skis or snowboards. Kotler’s book is based on the idea that you can stay “Gnarly” at any age—and even achieve your peak performance later in life.
